I ran into one of my girlfriends the other day and one of the first things she said to me was "I really love your blog, but I'd really like to see more cocktails and more desserts on there...those are my fave."
Um, ok. Well, the thing about doing lots of cocktails and desserts is that someone has to drink and eat said treats! And usually, at about 3:30 in the afternoon when I'm able to get most of my "work" done, I don't need to be getting tipsy {or fat}, so that's why I don't do more of them...until today.
Today marks the 7th day of homework brought home by my new Kindergartner {I know its 7, because we just finished focus on the letter "G"}. I don't know about anyone else out there, but I think this homework thing stinks. The glamour of Day 1 was great, but that soon wore off and trying to get my 5 year-old to focus for an extra 15 minutes a day has quickly become the bane of my existence. He isn't paying attention. He tells me he doesn't care. He won't listen to me when I try to help or explain something to him. He's constantly picking boogers and showing them to me and giggling. My future seems bleak and this is only the beginning. How on earth am I going to survive the next 13 years of this? I finally gave up and went to make myself a drink..... at least that would put me in a better mood, right?
Here's my Wednesday afternoon creation. Its delicious...... so delicious, in fact that I'm about to take a break from writing and go make myself another! <Be right back!>
Okay, so I have my cocktail{s} today, but can somebody please tell me that this gets better? Maybe there's some sort of system I should be using to give him an incentive to do his work {or to WANT to do his work}? Some words of encouragement would be great, even if its just that the cocktail sounds like the best idea!
Can’t wait to try this, this weekend! Love the top shot of the blueberries too. BTW, where is that placemat from??
Thanks Jackie–let me know if you try it and upload a pic to FB! The placemat is from Anthropologie….
Cheers,
Amy
Hi Amy,
Is there a substitute for the Verbena leaves?
I quote wikipedia:
“Verbena has longstanding use in herbalism and folk medicine, usually as an herbal tea. Nicholas Culpeper’s 1652 The English Physitian discusses folk uses. Among other effects, it may act as a galactagogue and possibly sex steroid analogue. The plants are also sometimes used as abortifacient.”
Being an abortifacient and at the same time a galactagogue seems just absurd!
Any substitute thats a little less complicated would be good!!
Cheers!
Abhi
Hi Abhi,
You can use any number of other herbs. Tarragon would be delicious, as would basil or mint. Just prepare the simple syrup the same way, substituting the fresh herb of your choice! I’d love to know how it turns out… good luck!
