{Almond Milk & Avocado} Chocolate Shake

I have to be honest with you, I completely blew it with my kids when it comes to smoothies.  It wasn't enough to just sneak delicious fruits and vegetables into their morning smoothies and simply enjoy the fact that they were getting a lot of extra nutrition in the process.  No, no, no I had to BRAG about it--to all my friends and family.... until they caught on and began refusing my attempts to force down a smoothie before they ever got served their morning waffles.  Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.  I also probably could have held out some of the extra wheat germ and flax seed; that was also detrimental to my once glory-filled mornings feeling like the best mother in the world.

Anyway, I got to thinking the other day when I saw a jug of chocolate flavored almond milk that perhaps I might be able to revisit the smoothies if they were disguised as chocolate "shakes"...  and I remember my dear friend Heather saying she made her girls a morning shake that she blended up avocados in and so was born this new "chocolate shake" smooothie.  The kids loved it..they actually asked for more.  Yes!  And I'm back.

Now, if I can just keep my mouth shut.

Ingredients:

1 cup chocolate flavored almond milk
1/2 cup plain yogurt {I use Greek yogurt}
1 banana
1 half of an avocado
handful of ice

Directions:

Blend all ingredients in a blender until silky smooth and serve in your favorite glass.  If you have any left over, save it in the refrigerator for an afternoon snack {instead of those stinkin' Girl Scout cookies in the freezer}!
